For Scotland, May 2025 was not just the sunniest May ever but the sunniest month ever, in records going back to 1910. With 270.2hrs of sunshine May 2025 beat the previous sunniest month (July 1955) by nearly 30hrs and the previous sunniest May (2000) by nearly 40hrs. It was 92 hrs or 52% sunnier than the 1991-2010 May average.

May 2025 was 1.2ºC warmer than average, making it the 6th equal warmest May in records going back to 1884.
Spring of 2025 was the sunniest and warmest spring ever recorded (meteorological spring is March, April and May).

2025 could be heading to be the 3rd warmest year ever recorded in Scotland after 2022 and 2014 and the 2nd sunniest year after 1955.
